Corey Haim is the latest actor to die way before his time. He was 38. According to reports, an accidental drug overdose is suspected by the LAPD. Haim was one of Hollywood's hottest young stars in The Lost Boys and License to Drive, but his career waned at a point when most adult actors are just getting started. He struggled with sobriety ever since then.

let’s add him to the list of all the former child/teen stars who died of an OD:
-Judy Garland
-Michael Jackson
-Brittany Murphy
-River Phoenix
-Dorothy Dandridge
-Brad Renfro
-Dana Plato
-Bobby Driscoll
-Scotty Beckett
-Anissa Jones
-Christopher Pettiet
nothing’s changed
-Ashleigh Aston Moore
Don’t forget Lindsay Lo….oh wait, not dead yet.
and heath ledger
Yeah. how did they leave Heath off the list? He was my favorite! Actor – not dead person. Well, OK. He’s also my favorite dead person.
Not a child star. No stage parents, crazy Hollywood parties at 12, or being a has-been at a ridiculously young age to blame.
Heath Ledger does count. Remember THE PATRIOT, etc? He started acting at a very young age. Judy Garland wasn’t going to crazy hollywood parties at 12, but she was a famous young actor. Sad how prescription drugs play a part in so many tragic deaths lately.
So if the word on the street is correct, is Dr. Conrad Murray gonna get charged for this one too? Cause this couldn’t have possibly been the victim’s fault…right?
So sad these fallen. Even sadder yet the lengths some in society will go to somehow make these out to be the fault of someone other than the victim…
Not the case here, I know. Simply making a point. It is our responsibility to see these overdoses for what they really are and not try and place blame on anyone other than the ones responsible. And it is the responsibility of those closest to the people to get them help SOMEhow. ANYhow.
The coroner’s report on Brittany Murphy was that she had no drugs or alcohol in her system.
No. The coroner’s report was that she only had the narcotics that had been PRESCRIBED TO HER in her system giving that d-bag she was married to license to say “she wasn’t taking drugs”. Well, yes, she was, but they were prescribed by a doctor. And doctor’s always look out for their patients, right?
Yes, but they found a large variety of prescription drugs in her possession. You can read the list in any article about her death. Your body can still become severely damaged from frequent use — doesn’t have to be an OD.
So sad that another young celebrity has died of a drug overdose. Condolences to his family.
Corey Haim dead at 38 – The Academy (AMPAS) immediately released a statement saying he will be left OFF next years in memoriam tribute.
If true, pretty shameless to issue that press release so close to his death. They should reverse that decision and issue an apology.
Condolences to his family and friends.
@splinter: Wow, you really don’t understand sarcasm.
I’ve got a bridge to sell you…
Alright, ya got me. Seen so much disingenuous and offensive behavior the past few years, I assumed true.
Why do you have to bring Leno into this?
And I have an island to sell you.
I was shocked to read it this morning. I figured with his past, this was bound to happen.
Not the most original ending for a child star, but I do feel especially bad for Corey. He was great in the Lost Boys. Hell, I was at that age that I wanted to BE him. Wanted to move to California, wear white shirts and read comic books. RIP dude.
What a thoughtful, sensitive comment, considering some of the ill-considered crap that’s passing for comment on this message thread.
I’m with you, pal.
I doubt that. He was a MOVIE star, ya know.
Died before his time? Based on his lifestyle, he lasted longer than many though he would. A tragedy to be sure, but a completely predicable one.
And in irony of all irony, Haim’s agent was just informed that he was just cast in next season’s “celebrity rehab”.
you forgot heath ledger…Sad day…not surprised though
I first heard about his death ovr the radio a few hours ago and I was completely shocked. Any motive as to what cause his death? I figured Corey would’ve been big by now. I saw his movie the lost boys when it first came out.
Brittany Murphy death wasn’t officially an overdose, but drug abuse led to her downfall
And he thought he was making a ‘comeback,’ very sad: interviewed him not too long ago. When someone is puffy in the face, and telling you everything is fine, it gives a little twinge of foreshadow.
Heath Ledger
People did try to help him and them. But the only one who can save you is yourself, trust me people gave him ever oppertunity until the very end.
And don’t blame it on show biz. I could list off ten friends from High School who never made more than 12 bucks an hour who did the same thing with no one looking except family. So this happens everywhere.
Don’t let yourself off by blaming the movie people. It happens in on your street also. In fact I would say if it wasn’t for art, some of my friends and I might have fallen into the same thing, but we put all our fucked up shit into our work, he stopped working, people would hire him and then have to let him go.
This last director who tried to hire him, is among a list of many people younger than Corey who tried to give him an opportunity to rise up to the promise of his childhood career.
So you’ve got a list of 12 child actors who died of an OD. Well, how about the list of child actors who didn’t die of an OD — more than 12 names, I bet.
So Corey Haim died. That’s sad for his family and friends, but what does that have to do with the industry? Nothing.
that ‘child actor’ apartment/hotel complex is now even more depresssing.
Agreed. Nothing is more depressing than the Oakwood Apartments, though I think its been said that that was where his mother was living.
Apart from a couple of minor TV roles in his late teens, Heath Ledger was never really a child star.
Between this and the Captain America thread, I’d say I’ve had my fill of Heath Ledger comments.
not like i was huge fan or anything but this is very sad. I bet his family wishes they had just stayed in canada instead of having him grow up in the shit-stain that is hollywood
they should outlaw child actors. from now on no children under 18 can act in tv or film. just think of all the opportunities that would open up for seth rogan — and midgets.
I’m 30 and when I was a kid Corey Haim was cool. To see his life take the nosedive it did was very sad…and to see him on ‘The Two Coreys’ just gave you the sense that he didn’t stand a chance…so this news is not a shock.
Still, there was something innocent about him that makes this a touch sadder than the other ‘fallen star’/'OD’ stories out there. And to those looking to make light of the situation, have a heart, the world can beat you down if your not careful…and sure, he was kind of pathetic in his last years, but he was still a human being (and by most accounts a pretty sweet guy)
R.I.P. Corey Haim
So sad….a big fan of his movies….just so sad
I hope my kids don’t do drugs, but you never know. City, suburb, they are everywhere.
I think the moral of the story is that hollywood is a whore. What happens when you love a whore? Cory had it all and lost it all and was never able to replace it with something real. This town eats people alive. RIP Cory Haim.
brittney murphy didnt die of and overdose. what the hell. she had a heartattack. read your facts.
YOU NEED TO TAKE BRITTANY MURPHY OFF OF THAT LIST IMMEDIATELY. She did not die of an overdose. The coroner has ruled on her COD, and an overdose was neither the primary nor secondary cause. This is because she did not overdose.
If liability concerns are not reason enough to delete the name immediately, how about deleting it just because it’s the right thing to do?
and yes your did forget heath ledger…how could you! he was my favorite too..
R.I.P. Corey Haim, loved your movies in the 80’s and you should have lived a long and prosperous life, but Hollywood doesn’t know how to take care of it’s childhood stars. I think they need to come up with some type of foundation for childhood stars when they hit brick walls like they seem to always do, but since money makes Hollywood go around, that will never happen.
also jonathan brandis….drug related suicide in 2003
so sad i loved him!
Interesting that no one ever mentions the Pushers! Gee, could that be because it might jeopardize the “drug-money-flow” in Jollywood?!
Watched Lost Boys again last night in Haim’s honor. He was terrific in it. Rest in peace, Corey.
That sound you don’t hear is the sound of NOBODY railing against the pharmaceutical industry. Why? Because they OWN this country.
being a child star seems to be the most surefire way to ruin your life. for the majority of these child actors, living the rest of their existence of the shadow of their former child selves is just too much to bear…if you ask me, the parents of these casualties are the ones who helped enable their deaths. what a waste. corey was my first movie star crush. he’ll live on in his iconic movies. may he rest in peace.
