The latest news and updates on snowfall in US:
 
Snow totals across the Mid-Atlantic are breaking records in Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia. Maryland is under a state of emergency today with very high accumulation rates as high as 2 to 3 inches of snowfall per hour. Even the US capital Washington DC prepared for the century's heaviest snowfall.
 
The transport networks were shut down and a warning was issued to the general public that they could be forced to spend at least 5 days inside their houses. A forecast for 2.5 feet snow and blizzard conditions was made in Washington DC. This is the 2nd snowstorm in less than 2 months that has engulfed Washington DC with more than 15 inches of snow.
 
Due to this heavy snowfall a number of accidents have taken place in various parts of the city.
 
Snow emergencies ahve been declard in the Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. In West Virginia thousands of people have to face power failure and have lost electricity. The snowfall is the heaviest since 90 years.
 
The epic snowstorm has brought the life and everything into halt in Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service, with heavy wet snow and strong winds the conditions would continue to be very risky and dangerous.
 
maryland has been described as extremely dangerous with potentially record breaking snow totals and strong winds. According to the forecasters, another 5 to 9 inches of snow could fall by the end of evening. The National weather service said that it might be 32 inches in Elkridge to 5 inches in Salisbury.
 
The heavy snowfall have caused a number of airlines to delay.
 
Schools have been closed.
 
Even some railway services have been cancelled due to heavy snowfall.

Many governmenrt employees are been asked to stay at home on leaves.
 
A number of hospitals have asked the people having 4 wheelers to voluntarily pick up doctors and nurses and bring them to work.
